Native American healing incorporates mind and body techniques to treat almost any condition whether it is psychological or physical. According to principles of native american healing, illnesses are not rooted in the affected area, but are caused by spiritual imbalances which can be corrected by herbs, meditation and rituals.

Much of what we know today about herbal medicine is based on Native American healing. Herbs were a staple of Native American medicine, and for almost any kind of complaint; tinctures, salves or teas made of leaves, flowers, bark or berries were applied or consumed to treat the ailment. Native American healing also focuses on detoxification methods, such as sitting in sweat houses and fasting to remove impurities from the body.

The Medicine Wheel has been used by generations of various Native American tribes as a tool for an all encompassing approach to health and healing. It embodies the Four Directions (north, south, east & west), as well as Father Sky, Mother Earth, and Spirit Tree - all of which symbolize dimensions of health and the cycles of life.

Native American shamanism is the practice that involves a practitioner reaching altered states of consciousness in order to perceive and interact with the spirit world and channel these transcendental energies into this world. Shamanic practitioners call on helping spirits in those other realities to heal people here by restoring their spiritual power. That power comes from a "whole" soul, the protection of compassionate spirits and power animals which create a spiritual force field around us all.
